- noun

  1. Stands for Sticking Leeches On Myself
  2. A series of decisions that sucks the life out of a person.

- verb

  1. To engage in an activity without thinking.
  2. To make a decision based on wannabeitis.

Example: Those who engage in SLOMming often fear not fitting in or simply enjoy being a sheep in the flock of life. Examples might include: fans of White Snake, people that wear parachute pants, and that 20-year-old guy who still hangs out at all the high school parties.

meaning

While SLOMming isn't "really" going on, some people do get sucked into the influence of peer pressure. Of course, most people make good decisions most of the time and are able to step back and avoid sticky situations. Others rely on the crowd to direct them. They do things they'd rather not, and even convince themselves that it's all good.

SLOM...a reminder for us not to believe the hype.

Slimy Stuff: the 411 on Leaches
  • The leech has 32 brains - 31 more than a human.
  • The leech will gorge itself up to five times its body weight.
  • Some leeches are parasites, that is, they live off other organisms without benefiting the host in return.
  • The largest leech discovered measured 18 inches.
  • Leeches are found in shallow ponds, lakes, and marshes.
  • After a leech drops off its host, the wound will bleed, on average, for ten hours.
  • The Hirudo leech injects an anti-coagulant serum into the victim to prevent the blood clotting.
  • Studies show that the cocoons of a leech are capable of surviving the digestive system of a duck.
  • Some leeches will even feed on other sanguivorous (blood sucking) leeches!
  • Like worms, leeches are hermaphroditic - they have both male and female sexual organs.
