Above the Influence

Podcast #3 - Jacob

Hi, this is Lisa from Washington, DC. We’ve had a lot of podcasts posted lately and now we have a new one from Jacob. Listen to him talk about avoiding pressure at parties and why he quit smoking.

My name is Jacob and I live in North Carolina and I’m in 11th grade. I like cars, particularly Mustangs and I like to play paint ball. There’s not a whole lot to do in Raleigh, so you gotta find your own thing to do.

I like classic rock, that’s probably my favorite type of music, I’m into some kinds of newer rock, but a lot of the newer bands aren’t as talented as some of the older bands, in my opinion.  I listen to some rap, but not really main stream rap, I listen to more underground bands and there’s a particular group from my home town that I really like. I’m into pretty much any type of music that has an instrumental sound.

I quit smoking because my nephew picked up a cigarette butt one day when we were at a car shop and he pretended to smoke it and I know that he looks up to me and I don’t want to be a bad influence, especially about something that could kill him. As long as he’s looking up to me and as long as I’m around for him to see me, I don’t want to be doing things that I wouldn’t want him to be doing.

My biggest influence is myself because you make what you are in life. It’s all is determined by what you do when you’re younger and if you make stupid decisions when you're younger then you could alter the rest of your life. The only person who can change me is me so I try to do things that would put me some place I’d want to be in life.

Heh, this is Lisa again, thanks for listening. Jacob will be back in a week or so so check back again to hear what he has to say. If you have any ideas for what you’d like to hear on our site, email us and tell us what you think.
